The Velvinci Journal

How we write the Velvinci Journal

Who writes the Journal, where our knowledge comes from, and the rules every article follows.

The Velvinci Journal explains leather, care and craft in plain words. This page says who writes it, where our knowledge comes from, and the rules every article follows.

Who writes it

The Journal is written by the Velvinci Atelier: the people who design, cut, stitch and repair our bags in Marrakech. We sign as the atelier because every article is shared work, checked by the people who handle the leather every day.

Where our knowledge comes from

Mostly from the bench: the leathers we choose, the way we sew and finish our bags, the care we give our own, and the repairs we make. When we explain something we do not do ourselves, such as how a tannery works, we check it against published standards and name our sources at the end of the article.

Our rules

  • Every article is read and checked by a person before it is published.
  • We only use real numbers. If we cannot measure or source a figure, we leave it out.
  • We never invent reviews, awards, experts or quotes.
  • Each article shows the date it was published and the date it was last updated.
  • When an article mentions one of our bags, we say so. Nobody pays us to mention a product.
  • If we get something wrong, we correct it and change the updated date.
